Is changing my 2009 Peugeot 308Turbo's 16" Alloy wheels to 17" will change the smooth ride it currenly have?

I asked about it from our local official peugeot dealer and he said it's possible to change although there will be noticeable decrease in the smootness of it's ride. Is that true? Why?
