Why is not possible to prepare copper II sulphate by reacting copper metal with dilute sulphuric acid?

Reactivity Series. You need to dissolve copper oxide in dilute sulphuric acid or use hot concentrated sulphuric acid to dissolve copper metal. That's because the concentrated acid first oxidises the metal surface and then dissolves that oxide continuously.
